Ever have one of those days—or weeks—when you just feel off? Like you're floating through life, but not in the carefree, "I'm on a tropical vacation" kind of way. More like you’re on autopilot, going through the motions, and wondering how you ended up here in the first place. Well, that’s exactly where I found myself not too long ago.

Let me set the scene: I had this Facebook group with over a thousand people in it, all focused on digital marketing. I was coaching other coaches on how to become visible, build their brand, and grow their reach. You know, the stuff that used to make me excited to jump out of bed in the morning. But then, something changed. The excitement fizzled out like a flat soda.

It’s not that I hated what I was doing; it’s just that I didn’t love it anymore. And trust me, when you’re trying to motivate others while secretly daydreaming about doing literally anything else, it’s not a good look.

So there I was, juggling my 9-to-5 job with coaching calls, feeling like I was running a marathon but in quicksand. I kept telling myself, "This is only temporary. Once you leave the 9-to-5, everything will feel easier." And sure, there’s some truth to that. But the bigger truth was that I simply didn’t want to do it anymore. My heart wasn’t in it.

Then, I asked myself the million-dollar question: “If I had $100K rolling in every month on autopilot, with ease and flow, what would I be doing?” The answer hit me like a ton of bricks—I’d be writing.

Now, this was hilarious to me because writing was something I’d wanted to do for years. I mean, years ago—when my son was just a toddler—I had this big dream of writing a book. Fast forward almost 15 years, and while I did write a book, it wasn’t the book I had imagined.

But here’s the thing: writing isn’t just about putting words on a page for me. It’s about freedom. Writing allows me to do things on my own time. If I want to write at 5 AM, great. If I want to write at 11 PM while curled up on my balcony, perfect. Whether I’m at a Boba tea café, on my lunch break at work, or on vacation at a resort, I can write. And that, my friends, is what I crave more than anything—complete control over my time.

Let me tell you, when you realize you’ve been chasing someone else’s idea of success, it’s like stepping on a Lego barefoot in the dark. It hurts. A lot. But that pain also wakes you up.

We live in a world where we’re told to “follow our passion,” but what if the passion that pays the bills doesn’t align with what makes our hearts sing? It’s a tricky spot to be in—a catch-22, really. So here’s what I’ve learned: things don’t have to happen all at once. Life unfolds in steps, revelations, and sometimes in the middle of a mini-existential crisis.

When you’re feeling out of sorts, it’s usually because you’re not doing enough of what feels good to you. Sure, we all have our “should dos,” but what about the “want to dos”? I’ve come to realize that balance might be a myth, but bringing in more of what feels good—even in small doses—can make all the difference.

So here I am, diving headfirst into writing because it feels good, and it’s helping me move out of that “stuck” place. Is writing going to become my main source of income? Who knows! That’s not the point right now. What matters is that I’m doing something that lights me up.

And that’s what I want for you, too. If you’re feeling out of sorts, I challenge you to start incorporating more of what makes you feel good. Even if it doesn’t seem practical or doesn’t have an immediate payoff, do it anyway. Just take those small steps and watch how things start to shift.

Thanks for joining me on this unscripted journey. If you enjoyed this post, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. I’ve got some exciting content planned, including activations, journal prompts, and more. Here’s to living life on our own terms—unscripted, unfiltered, and unapologetically real.
